Floodplain Management Vandiver Drive Extension The Vandiver Drive extension project required the design of a bridge crossing a regulatory floodway. Instead of spanning the 380’ floodway, a 310’ bridge was designed to take advantage of the removal of the existing bridge fill. The combination of a reasonably sized bridge with the removal of the fill allowed a no-rise certification that met the FEMA 100 year flooding requirements while reducing upstream flooding problems for more frequent storms. The project also required the design of two gabion drop structures to prevent the continued degradation of unnamed tributaries to Hinkson Creek. The project is scheduled to be bid in the Fall of 2008.
