Westchester Village Streambank Stabilization

Lateral migration of Mill Creek in south central Columbia was threatening to undermine a retaining wall and a residential park/playground area.  Allstate Consultants was selected to design a cost-effective solution.  The lower stream bank was protected with permanent vegetated turf reinforcement mat.  The toe of the bank was stabilized with riprap but the use of permanent turf reinforcement mat negated the need to cover the entire bank with riprap.  This resulted in a stable but less expensive and more aesthetically pleasing project.  A small block retaining wall on top of the stabilized slope replaced the previous tie wall and preserved the small park area.
