Storm Water Management Harper’s Hollow Detention System MoDOT contracted with Allstate Consultants to provide a preliminary storm water detention system design to mitigate the hydrologic impacts of the construction of a new four lane highway and two interchanges in a sensitive watershed. The proposed roadway design added 1.7 miles of new four lane pavement to the 640 Acre watershed and removed an existing detention basin. The watershed was already suffering the effects of extensive development and even relatively small storms were starting to cause flooding problems. The detention system design would be required to reduce both the frequency and severity of flooding problems at multiple outlet points. The resulting detention design included 7 separate detention basins that were designed using an integrated basin wide hydrologic model. Construction of the basins is expected to begin in the spring of 2009.
