Ashley Furniture Store, Columbia, MO

Allstate Consultants performed preliminary geotechnical studies to guide mass grading at the 50 acre Eastport Development on Columbia’s east side and followed through with site specific design stage subsurface exploration and construction materials testing and observation services for Eastport’s Ashley Furniture Store.  As the project progressed, we also performed geotechnical and construction testing services for the associated Ashley Furniture Warehouse at the Ewing Industrial Park on Columbia’s north side. 

Subsurface exploration at Eastport indicated the site of the proposed 50,000 square foot Ashley Furniture Store was underlain by glacial soils consisting of stiff, lean to fat clay till with lenses of water bearing silt and sand at depth.  This information and the results of laboratory swell tests on the upper lean to fat clay soils guided site designers in selecting the final floor slab elevation that would keep shallow foundations well above the water bearing silts and sands and provided necessary design parameters for foundations and the thickness and composition of the low volume change zone needed to support the building floor slab.
